Beaches on the Nicoya Peninsula

Near the local town of Nicoya are two of Costa Rica's nicest beaches.
Samara Beach is a wide arc beach with light brown sand and safe swimming. The town still maintains a local feel and is a popular beach testination for locals on public holidays as well as the Italians/American and German expats and language school students.
There is an even quiter and prettier beach only 5km south on a paved road. Playa Carrillo is a palm tree lined beach that has escaped the development of much of Northern Guanacaste. Catch the beautiful sunsets.

Further south is the in surfers beach of Mal Pais now popular with rock and film stars
The new age/stoner resort of Playa Montezuma has cool hotels like Amor de Mar or Ylang Ylang, eat at Playa de las Artistas. The best beaches in the area are in the Cabo Blanco Reserve a short drive from the town!
