Casa del Mar Across the street from the beach, with an open-air breakfast restaurant, cool central courtyard, and small Jacuzzi. The best rooms are on the second floor with AC. About USD60 for double with private bathroom.

Hoitel Las Brisas On the beach with 2 swimming pools and a good Italian restaurant. Rooms on the second floor of the 3 storey building have great bay views. There are also bungalows at beach level surrounded by palms and tropical plants. A junior bungalow with fan costs about USD75, rooms with AC cost more

Treehouse Inn On the beach, 6luxury oceanfront tree-house style apartments made of tropical hardwood on tree trunk stilts . Each unit has  cable TV, telephone, 24 hour security, gated parking and a  safe. About USD105 for beachfront unit.Less for poolside units.

SAMARA BEACH ACTIVITIES

Samara is a laid back town so there are'nt a lot of activities, unless you call lying on a beautiful beach an activity.

You can get surfing lessons at Jessee's Surf School, as well as hiring bodyboards. You can kayak out to the island in the bay.

Go fishing from the bay of  Playa Carrillo about 4km south of Samara. Playa Carrillo has some of the most beautiful sunsets in Costa Rica.

Hotels in the area can arrange sportfishing trips, or you could contact Kingfisher which is based out of Playa Carrillo.

Bike Costa Rica (tel. 656-0120) has a fleet of Trek mountain bikes that rent for $4 per hour or $25 per day.

Intercultura Language School offer a range of courses and private lessons and can arrange for a home stay with a local family.

All of the hotels here can help you arrange any number of tour options, including horseback rides, boat trips, scuba diving, and snorkeling outings. Tío Tigre Tours (tel. 656-0098), is a good all-around local tour company.

The waterfall near Belen- about 15 mins drive- is small & beautiful and during dry season it's safe to swim in the river beneath.

SAMARA BEACH

Samara Beach is a wide beach on the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica

The beach has a small surf but the reef in the bay cushions the beach from the strongest waves, making it good for swimming.

RESTAURANTS/ BARS IN SAMARA

BREAKFAST/BRUNCH:  A fruit shake -en agua or con leche, with water or milk- at Shake Joe's on the beach.

LUNCH: BAR MELI- In the corner of the football field. The seafood soup( pictured above) is good!

DINNER: JARDIN MARINO- on the main road near the beach, its full of ticos and does the best fish with garlic fillet in samara. EL DORADO is Italian owned and serves the best pizza in Samara as well as great seafood!
EL SUENO TROPICAL, outside of town, is ´romantic´and the food is good- cheap eats that are good are Sheriff Rustic Soda on the beach and Jardin Marino both serve good value 'casados'.

El Lagarto restaurant on the beach does great BBQ fish, chicken( pollo) and steak.

DRINK: La Gondola on the main road has pool, table tennis and decent tunes though its often empty during the week in low season. Las Olas is the beach bar open til late with pool, table football and occasional local DJs playing reggaeton, Bob Marley and beach bar music!!
