Plenty of surf schools in Tamarindo offer surf lessons. The best are Tamarindo Surf School and Iguana Surf.

Tamarindo Restaurants

BREAKFAST: Bar Nogui is THE breakfast cafe on the beach in Tamarindo. If you just want pastries and coffee try the Panaderia de Paris  in the Hotel La Laguna del Cocodrilo at the entrance to Tamarindo.

LUNCH:  La Laguna del Cocodrilo Bistro on the beachfront is my favourite `Fusion´seafood restaurant in Tamarindo, desserts are also excellent. Try and get a table in the small garden area rIght on the beach. A cheaper option is Witches Rock Surf Camp on the beach with `Nachos as big as your Ass´.

DINNER: Pachanga and Dragonfly are  good restaurants for dinner.

MIDRANGE HOTELS: Villas Macondo is a collection of individual cabinas and 2 apartments surrounding a lawned pool area. All rooms have a hammock on the porch and superior rooms have A/C, Cable TV, safe, fan and large shower. Perfectly located in a quiet street within 3 mins walk to the centre of Tamarindo.

SURFER'S HOTELS: Witchs Rock Surf Camp offer 7 day surf packages including lessons for beginners and trips to Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point for advanced surfers.

LUXURY HOTEL:Capitán Suizo is the best luxury hotel in Tamarindo. With 22 rooms and 8 bungalows set amidst beautiful tropical gardens, The centerpiece of the hotel is a large free-form swimming pool surrounded by lush gardens. A sanctuary of nature, bands of howler monkeys are frequent visitors and a variety of birds provide the music!

Getting to Tamarindo

Tamarindo has a small  airstrip serviced 7 days a week from San José by two airlines: SANSA, the national airline, and Travelair, a private regular schedule airline. Private charter services are available as well.

Scheduled daily bus service to and from San José, as well as surrounding communities, is available by a variety of companies. Interbus and Grayline offer shuttle buses from a number of towns around Costa Rica. There is also a paved highway from San José for those who want to rent a car and take the 4-5 hour drive to Tamarindo).

Liberia International Airport , Guanacaste is now open to international flights mainly from US, American from Miami, Delta from Atlanta, Continental from Houston and more.

Liberia airport is less than 45 minutes drive from Tamarindo.

Tamarindo Beach

Tamarindo Beach- or Playa Tamarindo- is one of the most visited beach towns in Costa Rica.

Tamarindo is located in the province of Guanacaste on the North Pacific Coast it is a wide beach with a gently breaking surf making it an ideal place to get surf lessons.

The amount of international visitors and a vibrant expatriate community are reflected in the numerous good quality hotels, restaurants and bars.
